Workplace Violence Prevention Program

A survey by Northwestern National Life Insurance revealed that 25 percent of workers feel that their job is the leading cause of stress in their lives. Add to this the fact that Americans spend the majority of their day at work and you've got a formula for workplace violence. To deter violence at work, every business should have a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program.

The consequences of not having a workplace violence prevention program can be severe. Every week in America, 17 people are murdered while at work and another 33,000 are assaulted. While no workplace violence prevention program will stop all incidents of violence, having such a  program greatly reduces the odds of such an event occurring. What's more, an organization that implements a proven workplace violence prevention program, such as that offered by The Academy Group, will be better able to defend itself in court should an unfortunate event occur.

AGI's workplace violence prevention program includes the following topics:

  • Recognizing the red flags of violent behavior, understanding patterns of violence, and identifying concerns before they become serious problems.
  • Implementing a system that allows threats to be reported and recorded without fear of repercussion against employees who come forward.
  • Training in threat assessment methods to distinguish between "just talk" and potential violence.
  • Knowing when to assign additional resources to a situaiton.
  • Knowing when people are afraid or feel like they are being cornered or accused, and learning how to diffuse a potentially violent situation.
