Roy Hazelwood: The Original Behavioral Analysis Expert
Many people know of Roy Hazelwood as the man who helped develop the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit. Hazelwood was one of the originators of modern behavioral analysis with a specialization in sexual crimes. It was up to Roy Hazelwood and other founding members of the Behavioral Science Unit to develop the system of behavior analysis and criminal profiling. In essence, Hazelwood wrote the book on behavioral analysis.
Roy Hazelwood has authored a number of articles and books, including The Lust of the Murderer, The Evil that Men Do and Practical Aspects of Rape Investigation. In addition to his many written works, Hazelwood also teaches courses on behavior analysis and criminal behavior. The courses Hazelwood teaches are designed for professionals with prior experience in behavioral analysis and criminal investigation.
Roy Hazelwood is also an Affiliate Professor of Administrative Justice at George Mason University and has appeared on numerous radio and television shows as a behavioral analysis expert. Hazelwood is the commentator for The Forensic Echo, as well as a board-certified examiner.
After his retirement from the FBI, Roy Hazelwood went on to become one of the founding members and Vice President of the Academy Group, along with other retired FBI and Secret Service members.
