Larry E. McCann

Former Virginia State Police (26 years) Senior Special Agent with the Behavioral Science Services section of the Violent Crimes Investigative Unit. Graduate of the FBI Police Fellowship program.  As a specialist in crime scene analysis and reconstruction, Mr. McCann has often appeared as an expert witness for the prosecution, the defense and in civil matters.  Able to incorporate behavioral evidence found at the crime scene into the overall analysis of the crime, giving a clearer picture of the incident.  His analysis of the Norfolk 4 case was instrumental in convincing Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to pardon the condemned men and led to their release from prison in August 2009.  Trained at the FBI National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime.  Involved in the investigation of over 2,000 homicides.  Over 20 years experience in threat assessments, stalking cases, false allegation matters, sexual assault cases, equivocal death investigations, personality assessments, jury selection, and offender characterization.  Investigated and managed threats against the Governor of Virginia and other executive officials for 23 years.  Established the Commonwealth of Virginia Homicide Assessment and Lead Tracking system. Assisted in international violent crime investigations. Has lectured extensively throughout the United States and appears often as an expert witness. Co-authored Crime Scene Investigation - A Guide for Law Enforcement in 2000 for the United States Department of Justice.
