Law Enforcement Training: A Domestic Violence Perspective

Between 85 and 95 percent of all domestic violence victims are women. Domestic violence is by far the leading cause of injury to women with approximately 5.3 million women suffering abuse every year. Of those, more than 1,000 victims are killed by an intimate partner.

Victims can be hesitant to seek a way out of their abusive circumstances. Even when law enforcement is called by a friend or neighbor, many victims fear the consequences of antagonizing their abuser and will choose to deny the crime rather than have the offender arrested. As a result, victims of domestic violence can be victimized for years.

Law enforcement training that offers a clear perspective on domestic violence will shed light on the psychology of being a victim, provide insight as to why men rape, present a victim's view of domestic violence, and help officers identify the traits and characteristics of battered individuals in order to offer them an alternative to their dangerous situation.  Such training offers police officers a better understanding of this all too common phenomenon and provides victims with a potential ally.

AGI's comprehensive law enforcement training course provides all of these facets, as well as practical options for advising stalking victims and the victims of sexually violent crimes who are also often hesitant to seek justice.
