Former FBI (24 years) Supervisory Special Agent, former Deputy Chief of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit (18 years). Former Marine. Managed and participated in research programs on violent crime and conducted research on national security issues such as espionage, betrayal of trust, psychology of terrorists, and computer hackers. Expert in indirect personality assessment and dangerous and bizarre behavior. Experienced in analysis of threats of violence. One of the first crisis and hostage negotiators in the FBI. Extensive experience working with Fortune 500 corporations to defuse potential violence in the workplace and to establish workplace violence policies and crisis management training. Member of Editorial Board of Journal of Threat Assessment. Testified as an expert witness on the federal and state judicial levels, and before committees of both Houses of Congress.  Served as a consultant to the Virginia Tech Review Panel, commenting on events leading up to and resulting in the campus shootings in April 2007.
